Smart Card Enrollment Without PIN Prompts
- You are no longer asked for your smart card PIN during enrollment. Pairing now completes using the authentication you just passed, and falls back to the familiar PIN prompt if it can’t. Unlocking from the lock screen still asks for your PIN as before.
Redesigned Enrollment and PIN Screens
- Enrollment now looks and behaves like the rest of macOS. Buttons use the system appearance, each screen has one clear action, and the layout no longer shifts between steps. This covers both enrollment paths — Automated Device Enrollment and the menu bar app — in light and dark mode.
- The PIN screen lets you reveal what you’ve typed, matches the Change PIN requirements list, and submits once when you press Return. If your organization’s password policy rejects a PIN, you get one clear line explaining why.
- Accept & Continue on the Terms and Conditions screen now unlocks only once you’ve scrolled to the end, and reopening enrollment is noticeably faster.
Clearer Setup Progress During Automated Device Enrollment
- The installation screen now shows a progress bar with a percentage while the package downloads, and progress only moves forward. If setup runs long, that message replaces the body text instead of stacking under it.
- A failed setup now says so plainly and directs you to your help desk, with no spinner left turning underneath the error.
- The “not yet enrolled” warning no longer appears while enrollment is still starting up, so a normal part of setup no longer looks like a problem.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed an issue where uninstalling could leave a Mac with no login screen at all, locking out every account including local administrators. Uninstalling now finishes its cleanup before reporting success, and the Mac Authenticator repairs the login screen on startup if it finds it damaged.
- Fixed an issue where spending more than a few minutes on the Create a PIN screen could leave you permanently unable to enroll. Your local account is now created only after enrollment is confirmed, so a failed attempt leaves nothing behind and you can retry immediately.
- Fixed an issue where enrollment could fail with an unrecoverable error before any request left your Mac, caused by an internal communication stall.
- Fixed an issue where the PIN was slow to accept after a long sleep, sometimes showing the Apple logo first. When no authentication server is reachable, the Mac now retries less often and wakes immediately when the network returns or you unlock.
- Fixed an issue where enabling certificate trust repeatedly prompted you even after you had approved it.
- Fixed an issue where enrollment briefly showed “Something Went Wrong — Smart card pairing failed” while preparing your sign-in credentials.
- Fixed an issue where a dialog warned that enrollment was in progress when it had already failed.
- Fixed an issue where the Wi-Fi panel kept showing “Wi-Fi not connected” and a spinning indicator after you had successfully joined a network.
- Fixed an issue where enrollment could sit on “Finalizing enrollment” for several minutes without saying the connection had dropped. You’re now told when enrollment is waiting on the network, and a step that never reaches it is no longer recorded as completed.
- Fixed an issue where a Mac that couldn’t reach the network early in startup quietly finished setup as an unmanaged computer with a generic local administrator account.
- Fixed an issue where the screen went blank for around 20 seconds after you created your PIN.
